How many tables for a 135 person wedding: 17 rounds of 8

One division, then the rest of the rental order: your table, the vendors, the cake and a room that has to hold one hundred and thirty-five people seated.

The short answer

For 135 seated guests, plan 17 tables of 8 (60-inch rounds) or 14 tables of 10 (72-inch rounds), and round up as already done here. That is 136 seats with 1 spare, or 140 seats with 5 spare. Then add your own table, a vendor table of 6, and about 5 service tables for the cake, cards, gifts and music.

One hundred and thirty-five guests is close to The Knot's 2026 average of 117, which is the worked example in our tables guide. The same seating math for exactly 135 guests is below. The comfortable numbers are 8 at a 60-inch round and 10 at a 72-inch round, from rental catalogues. One more guest fits, and feels cramped at a plated dinner. Plan at the comfortable number.

Guest tables for 135 people

Count the people who will sit down to dinner: the guests who said yes, with plus-ones and children who need a seat. The two of you are not on that list.

With a sweetheart table. You sit at a small table of your own. All 135 guests sit at the rounds.

TableDivisionOrderSeatsSpare
60-inch rounds of 8135 ÷ 8 = 16.88171361
72-inch rounds of 10135 ÷ 10 = 13.50141405

With a head table of ten. You and eight in the wedding party sit facing the room, on three 8-foot rectangles. Those eight come off the guest count, which leaves 127 for the rounds: 16 tables of 8.

Do not leave 1 empty seats on the last table. Sit 16 tables of 8 and 1 tables of 7, so the room looks full and a few families have a little more elbow room. Older relatives and families with small children are the ones to give the roomier tables to.

The long version of this method, including rectangles and cocktail tables, is in how many tables you need. Whether you sit alone or with the wedding party is head table or sweetheart table.

The rest of the order

Guest tables are not the whole rental list. For 135 guests, a typical order is:

Guest rounds of 817Seated dinner
Sweetheart or head1The two of you, or you plus the wedding party
Vendor table1 (6 seats)Photographer, band or planner meals in the contract
Service tables5Cake, gifts, cards, guest book, escort display, DJ

Centrepieces17One per guest table. 14 if you use 72-inch rounds

72-inch rounds save on flowers: 14 centrepieces instead of 17. Our guide to what wedding flowers cost prices that difference, and what wedding rentals cost prices the whole order.

Will 135 seats fit the room?

Building codes set a minimum floor area per person. Under the International Building Code, a room with tables and chairs needs 15 square feet per person, so 2,025 square feet for 135 people seated. That is the legal minimum, with nothing else in the room.

A planning figure is roomier: about 18 square feet of dining space each, or 2,430 square feet, plus the dance floor, the bar and the band. A room advertised for 300 standing holds about a third of that at dinner.

Ask the venue for its capacity for a seated dinner in the layout you want, then a floor plan with 17 rounds drawn on it.

Other guest counts. 125 guests, 130 guests, 140 guests, 145 guests.

Questions

How many tables do I need for 135 guests?

17 tables of 8, or 14 tables of 10, plus your own table and about 5 service tables. Round up, never down.

How many 60-inch round tables for 135 people?

17, which seats 136 with 1 spare. Spread the spare seats so you do not have one thin table.

How many 72-inch round tables for 135 people?

14, which seats 140 with 5 spare. That is 3 fewer centrepieces than 60-inch rounds.

How many chairs for a 135 person wedding?

144 seats at the guest tables, your table and the vendor table, then about 12 extra, so order around 156. Add a second set if the ceremony is in another room and staff cannot move chairs during cocktail hour.

When do I count the tables?

Twice. Once from the guest list, to get a quote and check the room. Again after the RSVP date, when the replies are in. That is the number the rental company needs. The RSVP deadline calculator gives you that date.
